The Perfect Rig For Lake Bled | David Rosemeier
Lake Bled is becoming increasingly popular among carp anglers as Slovenia’s mecca for catching stunning, heavyweight fish from crystal-clear waters amidst breathtaking scenery. This was also the case for David Rosemeier, who ventured to Lake Bled for the first time this late autumn. In the following step-by-step guide, he explains the Rig he used to target the Slovenian carp...
This year, I set myself a lofty goal: three days of carp fishing at Lake Bled during ice cold temperatures. With conditions just above the freezing point, I approached a lake that is notoriously
fickle and temperamental.
Lake Bled is not the kind of water where you simply set up your Shelter, cast out your Rods, and wait for the action. Quite the opposite – with a strict night fishing ban in place, you’re forced to rise early, actively search for the fish, and even resort to stalking techniques if necessary.
Since I could only cast my Rigs, I opted in advance for Stiff Rigs. This setup reduces the likelihood of the Rig landing poorly or not being properly presented on the lakebed. The Blend D-Rig with a size 6 & 4 Lock Hook turned out to be the ultimate presentation for me at Lake Bled. Here’s how to tie one up yourself...
HOW TO TIE THE BLEND FLUOROCARBON D-RIG
1. Cut 25cm of Blend Stiff Fluorocarbon Hooklink material.
2. Take a Lock Hook in the size of your choice.
3. Form a loop and hold it against the Hook shank with your fingers. Ensure the shorter end of the Hooklink points toward the hook eye.
4. Thread the shorter end of the Hooklink through the loop about five times.
5. Tighten the knot and cut the excess. The longer end of the Hooklink should now point toward the hook bend.
6. Thread a Tweakers Eyed Bait Screw onto the Hooklink.
7. Thread the Hooklink back through the Hook eye and secure it with a classic Knotless Knot.
8. Slide a Blend Tungsten Anti-Tangle Sleeve onto the Hooklink material.
9. Finally, tie a Figure-of-Eight Knot at the end of the Hooklink. Make sure the Hooklink isn’t too long – a length of 15–20 cm is ideal.
And there you have it: the Blend D-Rig for casting!
This setup proved to be a game-changer for my Lake Bled adventure, offering precise presentation and securing bites from the lake’s elusive carp. I can't wait to go back and try it again!
