Three Carp Rigs That Every Angler Needs | Steve Hill

There are so many Rigs out there that can be used for carp fishing, but which are the best? In this short article and video OMC's Steve Hill explains the three Rigs he has the most confidence in and when he uses them...

A common question asked on social media and at the fishing shows is: "What Carp Rig is best for every situation?". The answer is, there isn't one. But I don't like to over complicate things, so I have three Rigs that I have the upmost confidence in.

Slip D Multi Combi Rig

This is one of the most versatile Rigs I use. Its made with a length of Fluorocarbon Albright Knotted to some Ammo Braid. This creates the best of both world's on the bottom, the Fluorocarbon makes the Rig reactive, tangle-proof and helps it kick away from the Lead every time. Whilst the Braid provides that suppleness for cautiously feeding fish. You can use it with Pop-ups, Wafters and Bottom Baits too - a real winner that has caught me some huge fish.

Hinge Rig

A classic Carp Rig that most anglers will have in their locker. The Hinge has a habit of tripping up the very biggest carp and ensures you are well presented over mucky lakebeds. A Pop-up Rig primarily, it works best over spreads of Boilies. I tie mine with the OMC Chods Away sections tied directly to some Blend Coated Braid. I prefer this over a Spinner as I can adjust the height I want the Pop-up to sit and the Hooklink length for varying bottom substrates.

Solid Bag Rig

Where would we be without them? Solid Bags catch so many fish and are a great tactic to start with on any venue to get the feel of the water and carp. I tie mine with a 4-inch length of the Ammo Braid fished as a German Rig. You can use both Wafters and bottom baits inside Solid Bags. Just make sure you get that Bag really tight and compact for better casting, something that is easy to do with our Fade Bags and Tape.

So, if you're going out carp fishing and aren't sure what Rig to try, one of these will do the trick.
