Catch Big Fish Anywhere In The World With This Curved Corn Rig | Mouloud Madoui

Carp Fishing the wild dams of Algeria doesn't require complicated Rigs, but they do need to be strong and tangle-proof. In this article, Mouloud Madoui (Algerian carp record holder) details a simple presentation that has been catching him big fish consistently...

One of the biggest things that spooks carp in my experience is too much leading about. If you see activity in an area and then start leading around the zone for a spot, you can be pretty sure that the activity will be killed very quickly. This is why I like to use a Rig that I know will be presented on just a single cast, so I know, even if I'm a little off, I can leave it.

On the water in Algeria I'm fishing, I see a lot of activity very close to snags and huge trees. In these situations, strength is obviously one of the most important attributes of your Rigs, so I make sure my components are as solid as possible before combining them to make the trap.

I bait my spots with both Corn and Boilies, so having a Rig that can present either is also useful. At this time of year I like the visual attraction of the Corn, so this is my chosen Hookbait.

Here's how I tie the Rig step by step...

1 - Grab yourself some 35lb Blend Coated Braid and Size 2 Lock Hooks. The Locks provide some of the best hookholds I have ever seen, they really improve this Rig and all my fishing.

2 - Strip your required length of 35lb Blend Coated Braid - this material is incredibly strong and abrasion resistant - perfect for snag fishing!

3 - After tying your standard overhand Hair Loop, thread of three fake grains of Corn. If you aren't concerned with buoyancy and simply want attraction, the OMC Corn Caves are a good choice here as they can be loaded with an attractive paste!

4 - To hold the Corn grains securely on the Hair Rig, slide the end of the Hooklink through the end of the loop and pull down tight.

5 - Thread on your Lock Hook before tying a Granny Knot against the Hook to create a 'blowback effect' and to trap the Hair in place. Follow this up with a standard Knotless Knot.

6 -  Thread on a Dazzler Curve and push over the eye of the Hook, this extends the shank of the Hook to create superb Rig mechanics.

7 - Slide on an Anti-Tangle Sleeve. Your Extra-Strong Curved Corn Rig is now complete!

TOP TIP - Keep the Rig short (no more than 20cm) to avoid tangles.

On a recent session, I had a bite on this Rig just 20 minutes after putting it out towards the snags. The fish gave a proper fight before it hit the net - 17kg of Carp landed from an underwater jungle with no issues at all thanks to this awesome presentation. Give it a try in your fishing!
